2 weeks notice (and lots of snaps)

It's not 2 weeks yet but it already feels like more than a month since we were in Singapore. The family and friends seem far away now. That feeling was slightly alleviated by Su & Ming's visit but there is no real remedy for missing people.

The last homecoming was definitely different from previous ones. My main priority was introducing K as compared to the past where I would be in a frantic rush to meet everybody in town, as if hungry to stitch myself back into the social fabric. And seeing Singapore through mama-eyes made me compare the 2 cities differently as well. There is the usual conflict between being amazed by the changes- good and bad. And the bad seems more acute. The homogenous shopping, the expensive average food, the humidity, the uncivil crowd. I know that one can argue against them but this is just my personal feeling. Of course, on the flip side, I appreciate the cheap pricing, the cheap hawker meals, the roast duck, the durian, the convenience. So now that the view is more balanced, the crave lessens.

What is clear, however, is that I miss my family and friends. It is all about the people. The love, the memory of who I was and acceptance of who I have become. It turns out my fears were irrational and I didn't feel as guilty having to take time out and turn my attention away to 'mother' K.

The trip back has also given me confidence that wherever we go from here, home will be where we can be together. The meaning of home has really transformed into an emotional one rather than a physical one for me.

Anyway, I just want to say a belated THANK YOU to all and here are some eye K-andy for you (especially my mom).

Another miracle snooze in the stroller
Staring motionless at kids playing
Wistful look
Trying to measure her against the wall but she refuses to stand properly
Trying on the feeling of twins at a 1 year old's party
Posing with the party girl and mom
Gnawing on corn cob and scrapping bits with her emerging front teeth
Not going far on a toy car
Flattening herself cautiously against the window pane
Trying on 2nd hand Ralph Lauren pants
Amused by papa's simple toy of coins in a plastic bag
Her signature frown
Crouching tigress
Swinging along
Looking like a cowgirl
Endorsing the evil global soft drink
