Hung out with a mama friend I met through Keina's Music Together class today. She's an Assoc Prof at a famous uni in town with a 3 yr old son. Just chatting with her inspired me to be a better mom to Keina. Such is the magic of mama-sharing.
Had a flashback about my childhood and how thoughtful my dad was cultivating a love for books in us. As I think back now, I can still vividly remember my regular weekend visits to Toa Payoh Library. How excited I was being able to check out the books I selected for myself then! And how he bought me audio books with my favorite being Pied Piper as I loved the music. I can still hear the entire story in my head if I try hard enough. And the constant drop offs at the bookstore when they went grocery shopping. Books, I believe, kept me out of trouble growing up.
It's interesting how having a child of your own gives you such vivid flashbacks of your own past. It definitely wasn't something I could have easily tapped into if not for this experience.
The reason why I don't blog as much is I can't access the keyboard in the day without Keina wanting to 'baobao' and have a go at it herself. At night, I use it in the bedroom and the keyboard tapping wakes her. Note to self- get those silicon covers quick!
I left the dishes in the sink after dinner today. Am just too tired. Plus, tomorrow's Saturday and Naoki can hang out with Keina as I fuss about in the kitchen.
Bought a lint remover for our winter coats today at those neighborhood malls. And I picked up a sale flyer at the cashier. It became an interesting read for me on the train home and midway through reading the details, I'd realized that I'm really turning into an Obasan. Which other of my gloriously fabulous and single girlfriends would give two hoots about a silicon liner that can seal off the edges between the bathtub and the wall so it won't yellow? See- I told you I read the details. Sigh.
Babies really have a beautiful soul. I fear how I may corrupt my dear baby girl with my evil ways. I am a big meanie to Naoki when I get stressed and I really don't want Keina to pick up my bad behavior. Shall teach myself to count to ten. I blame my blood A type. I need anger management.
Some blog captions which I would hope to get photos of to keep track of Keina (let's see if I can really get down to it...):
- Standing up by herself
- Getting up and down the ledge with the sofa arm
- Drumming regular beats on her bongos
- Flipping through magazines with interest
- Babbling away as she walks around the house with her soft doggie or bearbear
- Knows where her tummy is
- Knows where the logo on her sweatshirt is (this probably wins the funniest award)
- Loves to turn around to check if she's got poo in the potty as I wipe her
- Chews on her books still
- Put an extra bar at the kitchen doorway
