Emotions at 16months

Greed/ Glee over food is the top. Her favorite word is 'more' at mealtimes and today when I was talking to my dad on Skype, she stabbed her teaspoon at my bento box trying to steal a piece of stewed juicy daikon. She loves food and I know their appetites could change as they get older but so far, she is pretty easy to feed. One tick on the good box against various not-so-good boxes on the other column. That's why I worry when she is constipated. I really wonder where all the food go. I can imagine them all stacking up getting squashed with each meal I feed her and it terrifies me. Now we are on a regular dose of malt supex and recently tried origoto (daikon sucrose I think).

Joy over her own ability to communicate. She bursts into a loud excited voice when she points out buses, birds, (today) umbrella, babies, fish, Anpanman (aargh, no escaping in Japan), Alices. She's really at a growth learning spurt- picking up vocabulary at an impressive (to a first-time mom's) pace.

Jealousy- my favorite. It is perverse if I relish so much in her unadulterated jealousy when I show the slightest affection to other kids? When she swats another kids' hand away, I swell up with incredible joy that I am worthy of her defense. I know I have to teach her that she doesn't 'own' me but it feels so good to finally get the emotional feedback after months of unconditional slavery.

Discontentment is a nice word but the truth of it is simply impatient tantrums. I tell her firmly that I ignore her when she fusses and whines but when she is hungry or tired, it is very hard to quell her outbursts. In pure barbarian fashion, she throws things when frustrated and her decibels shoot up exponentially when ignored. The battles have begun.

Playfulness is an emotion but if I can be more specific, it's cheekiness. She understands what is right or wrong, maybe 80% of the time. So when she is watching me and trying to put something she picked up from the floor into her mouth, grinning as I work up the frown on my face to say 'No mum mum', she is really testing my limits. At this moment, I am grateful she responds to my frown and doesn't follow through with her threats. But I am bracing myself when she throws all caution into the winds.

I'm definitely holding you to your trip! can't wait to meet E too- I'm sure K will be thrilled. she loves pointing out babies but I suppose E wouldn't be too much of a baby then huh? patience my dear- E will grow to learn in time the joys of food :)
