My days are usually very bright around Keina. Except when she is unwell. The stress of her un-wellbeing casts an enormous cloud over my head. My eyebrows start to furrow deeply. It bores down on me like a ton even though after 16 months of it, you'd think I should be able to take it more easily.
Recently, it's been about her constipation problem. There was that famous 4 days worth of no poop that gave me sleepless nights, pondering what I should cook that next day, wondering if she would poop. Earlier last week, I'd thought the problem had cleared up with 'smooth' passage daily but one day of no poop led to a day of hard poop to another day of no poop. It's very shitty. Literally. It's a vicious cycle. If she doesn't poop, it builds up inside and hardens making it harder to poop the next day. If she has a hard time pooping, it hurts and she withdraws more from pooping. Yes, her awareness of her poopping ability is a double-edged sword I'd realized. It's good for toilet training if all is clear in the 'channels' but it's bad for toilet training if it's 'stuck' as she knows how to withhold her poop.
Is that enough poop for you yet?
And the poop is just one aspect. The diet is another. Every day, I'm fussing over what fibrous foods to give her. Every day, I'm checking how much water she drinks and concoct various 'drinking' games with her stuffed animals, just so she downs more water. At the moment, I've been avoiding what they call a BRAT diet which is Bananas, Rice, Apples, Toast (Bread). As you can see, those are practically all her favorite staples- especially bread and apples. So all I'm relying on is oatmeal and it's not the tastiest food to make a savory meal out of. I'm lucky she isn't fussy about having that but there is only so much I can do with it. Oatmeal and raisins, prunes, figs are what we have for morning. Lunch is a little bit of porridge. Dinner is oatmeal again with whatever I have on hand. I basically prepare it as if pretending it's porridge.
Sigh.
Writing about this doesn't make me feel good. Going to sleep. Zzz..

Hello~ Sorry to hear about K's pooping problems. Sounds like you're doing all that you can do right now so I guess you'll just have to sit back and let nature do the rest. Hope both you and K feel better soon! *hugs*
hahaha
C & I read this entry and laughed :) my dear E is consti too :( or so we think.
her poop has changed in character since introducing solids so i dont even know if it is consti or normal.
i put her on peaches and sweet potato for 2 days straight and still no improvement.
suggestions??
ganbatte with the home cooking!!
ps/ just got myself a hand mill!!
haha.. I can't say what works cos I don't know yet! but I give her Malt Supex (it's au naturel you can try from the drug store). I'm giving her prunes and oatmeal and upping the fruits when I can. But for Eva, honestly I think it's a normal change due to solids. Their poop rhythm and 'character' will change so for Eva, I wouldn't really worry unless her stomach's bloated or if she's having a hard time pooping or if her poop has irregularities like blood or what nots.. have fun with the hand mill :P
